Define the component and inspection objective
Identify the asset, component designation, material, dimensions, weld or area of interest, service history and the condition the examination is intended to detect or monitor.
Confirm requirements and acceptance criteria
Make applicable procedures, drawings, specifications and acceptance requirements available. Resolve conflicts early so examination coverage and reporting expectations are understood.
Prepare safe access and the surface
Confirm permits, isolation, access, lighting, scaffolding and environmental conditions. Surface preparation should match the selected method; coatings, scale, contamination and geometry can reduce examination effectiveness.
Coordinate timing and hold points
Build realistic time for preparation, equipment verification, examination, interpretation, reporting and any required follow-up. Identify hold points and communication contacts before the work window starts.
Protect traceability
Ensure component identification is unambiguous. Agree on report fields, drawing references, indication mapping, photo expectations and the path for communicating reportable conditions.
Plan for findings
Define who receives preliminary results, who determines disposition and how expanded inspection or another method will be authorized if conditions warrant further evaluation.
Discuss your inspection requirement
